Wanna Join a Summer Slimmin' Challenge? Here's how...

If you want a short online challenge to help you make this summer one of focusing on health and fatfighting, why not join the challenge set up by Z of Bottomless blog?

It's called the SUMMER SLIMMIN' challenge and Z has created some cute badges that remind us what we should be doing to slim down some and up our good health and eating habits in the coming two months.

You can get info and sign up HERE. Or just click the badge over at the top of my sidebar on the left (see the pretty Korean manhwa gal in a swimsuit? Yeah, that one.)

Now, here's a look at what the expectations (ie summer slimmin' habits) will be for participants:

First, it's about supporting EACH OTHER, so we expect from ourselves and others in the challenge to just be "Takin' Part"--commenting on the blogs (one or two or some or all) to keep our spirits up with encouragement. A few minutes a day will suffice. Can we do that?

Yeah, think so. :)

Next is a nutritional slimmin' basic:  "Eatin' 5+ a day" from the summer bounty of fruits and veggies. All we suggest is that you eat AT MINIMUM five servings of a variety of colorful produce. You can eat 12 servings. Low cal veggies are great for filling up. This provides nutrients, filling fiber, vitamins, minerals and visual appeal to your meals. If you have produce, this is a time to try new things and experiment. Aim for a variety of colors to maximize nutritional benefits.

"Cookin' Meals"~~~Third is an outgrowth of the previous, but is also one of those habits some of us just haven't dedicated ourselves to: creating healthful meals AT HOME, where we can control what goes in (as opposed to restaurants or takeout, where we might be 1. tempted by the offerings that are diet-demolishing or 2. don't really know what's going in there.)  No one needs to eat every meal at home or prepare everything, but learning to make healthful meals, brown-bag lunches, snacks just seems to be part of losing and keeping it off (if you notice from the blogs and reports and studies of those who have lost big and kept it off.)

Fourth is another basic: hydration. "Drinkin' It"

We suggest the usual--8 glasses of clean water a day. You can drink more, but the challenge suggests this standard minimum recommendation.

Next is one a lot of us have issues with or just plain DON'T WANNA do. (And I have issues, too, so it's not a finger-pointing, unless it's pointing right back at me.) It's EXERCISE. It's "Movin' It."

Whether it's lifting weights, Pilates, doing aerobic or yoga DVDs, walking, swimming, biking, hiking, rock-climbing, scuba-diving, or skiing. Or marching in place while watching tv. Move. Daily.

And the last challenge category is: "Writin' It Down." This is another one that's hard to keep up, but various studies show that it helps people be more aware of what they are eating and how many calories are consumed--and to actually make better choices and exercise some caloric restraint. It's really REAL, those cookie's calories and fat content, when you WRITE IT DOWN. Write down everything you eat and drink. Use a notebook, a diary, an online journal, your blog, SparkPeople.com, or some other online nutrition tracker. Just WRITE IT ALL DOWN EVERY DAY OF THE CHALLENGE. :) Well, that's the ideal to shoot for.

So, come on, join in. We'd love to see your blog name in our challenge list.

The challenge runs from June 6 (that's this coming SUNDAY) through August 6th. Two months.

Let's do it!
I'm gonna show you my upper arms  and me at 266 lbs in the sun. My batwings. Er, okay, fat wings. Hanging in the bright noonday light.

The thing is that I wish you could FEEL them. I have MUSCLE under all that blubber. Two years of Pilates and I have lots of muscle. But...fat covereth a multitude of muscle, it seems.

Heh.

Anyway, since I'm starting a challenge on Sunday--I'll post on that shortly so some of y'all who need a boost for the summer fatfight can join in--I wanted documentation of their size NOW. By next June, I want those babies to be smaller. (And I'm using MSM cream daily for a week plus now and taking Zinc supplementation hoping that helps with elasticity a bit.)

Here we go. A pic taken Monday, May 31, 2010.

I present the royal fatwings:

Dang, my boobies look big, too, huh?

Note the utter joy on my face. I am proof one can be fat and happy. I may suffer from bouts of depression, but when the blues take a hike, I'm a happy gal being photographed by a happy guy (whom I love madly and who loves me madly, hooray). Love is more potent than fat. :) And I hope you feel joyful even if you have huge fatwings like me.

Take a cue from Lisa and her own pics of her upper arms as they used to be at a weight very close to mine now: Be happy, dance, have joy, enjoy life, even if your body is a source of shame or frustration at times, refuse to give in to the negative self-views. Be full of cheer NOW, not when you're 40 or 100 or 200 lbs slimmer. You have to have fun with what you have now. You have to love the you that you are now. Don't hide away. Don't wait to be fully you. Don't wait for the miracle diet or miracle pill or miracle protein drink. Just glow now.

Okay, I showed you mine. Now, let me see YOUR fatwings or droopy thighs or hanging abdomen or whatever it is you'd like to see change a bit or a lot this summer. Take a shot. Post it. Document it. Then make it....history. But not shameful history. Just plain old...history.

And you know what? Post a pic even if you are NOT going to work on changing a dang thing, if you're fat and happy and sassy and not gonna diet or run a marathon or do anything but be zaftig self. That's fine, too.

Post a comment with a link if you have the cojones to show your fat to the world with a smile on your face.

Later...
Maybe you wanna visit, too. :)

Just looking at her fabulous photo-pic journey (see her melt away to a trim 150 lbs) is a huge encouragement.
There was a lot going on last week in NYC. Here are a few more photos from our adventures! At the Robert Kennedy Publishing booth with Wendy Morley who heads up the book department. Thanks for working hard and making it a great week!My daughters Rachel & Kiersten & book designer Gabriella meeting Clinton Kelly of What Not to Wear at his book signing. We gave him a copy of Eat-Clean Diet for Men.
I saw a blog hop sign-up on Fitcetera blog, and I added this blog and copied the code and put it in my sidebar (scroll down).

I think I did that wrong. Lucy of DIMINISHING LUCY left me a comment, and apparently, I "royally" screwed this up. I'm not all that bloggy-tech savvy, so I'll try to fix that now, but, really, I think I'm MORE confused after reading Lucy's directions. (So much for my 136 IQ).

Okay, here goes with the button:

The button's also on my sidebar now, replacing the actual blog hop list, which is what I'd put there before. The list:

I'll even backdate it to Thursday to keep things in order here.

Man, if this is still wrong, slap me hard. I will link to a FITNESS/DIET post next Thursday, not one explaining what a dumbass I am re blogging linky/html stuff. :) Normally, I'm so good about following rules. Sorry if I made a mess this time for ya, Lucy. I didn't even know you were involved. Ahem.

Now, for those wanting a challenge, please see previous post on the challenge that begins SUNDAY, yes SUNDAY, June 6 and runs through 8/6. Just two months of focusing on health and slimming: SUMMER SLIMMIN' CHALLENGE.

For those wanting to know a totally orgasmic reason to exercise: HERE Ya go.

Forgive my spazziness and I'll try to do you right NEXT THURSDAY. :)

Nitey all....

Harinik g hiking naik Bukit Mertajam [BM] dengan CT. Memandangkan hariktuh masa naik dengan Chip Yazet and the pirate, naik sekerat jalan ajer, so aku dengan tekad dan semangat nyer nak redah sampai atas [pencawang] hariknik. Aku cakap kat CT, naik sampai atas kalo boleh hariknik. Dia cakap ok ajer.

Beat time kali nih 40 mins [was 45 mins, kat last check point yang ader open gym tuh]. Lepas duduk kejap abehkan saki baki pisang [banyak giler aku beli kat bawah sebelom panjat huhuh :-s], then baru shoot sambung naik atas.

Sambungan tak besh sebab jalan tar [ i dun like tar2 wooo, aiyayah] tapi gigih nak naik sampai atas jugak. Dari open gym sampai pencawang aku xsure ader jalan hutan ke tak, so no choice, ikut ajer tar. Aku rasa chip Yazet ada cakap, ada jalan hutan tapi sangat2 bahaya sebab tak ramai yg guna dan tak lunyai, means hutan sangat dara, macam2 ada... jadik play safe, naik ikut tar.

Sampai ataih, dah kul 10.30am. Tak berapa panas, tak berapa sejuk, layan ajer... CT jarang naik bukit so agak panciton sket akekeke, tapi kira oklah, dia beat time aku mula2 naik atas. Dulu aku 1st time naik pun 45 mins. Dengan dier kali nih, aku dapat 40 mins, means dia kuat lagik lah darik aku :P. Ok2, next time, improve time ok bebeh :D.
